During the month of May we have been together with Smart Center and EMAS in Kenya, in the Kissi area, working with the local NGO Aqua Clara.
We have shown manual drilling and made manual pumps and some rainwater harvesting system. We have also spent time upgrading open wells with the installation of a pump and cap. In this way, hygiene is improved, water extraction is facilitated and possible falls are avoided, which, unfortunately, are frequent.
In this area, at 2,000 meters of altitude, the nights are cold (we slept with a sleeping bag, blanket and fleece) so people need to heat water to wash, either with firewood or electricity. For this reason, we manufacture a solar heater that will allow them to reduce not only the cost, using a renewable source, but also CO2 emissions and thus contribute to the fight against climate change.
